Tour Description

We are happy to introduce our Hermitage Tour to you! This museum is Russia’s most famous museum. It’s on the list of any traveler who comes to St. Petersburg. The museum presents the history of the Russian Empire, Russia’s greatest monarchs, like Elizabeth or Catherine the Great, and, of course, museum priceless art collections.

During our Hermitage tour we visit The Main Museum complex. It includes: The Winter Palace tour, The Small Hermitage, The Old (Big) Hermitage, and The New Hermitage.

The tour starts with meeting your guide at the hotel lobby (or any other place that you specify). Since the Hermitage is located in the heart of the city, it’s walkable from most central hotels. Please note, that the museum is open everyday, except Monday and state holidays.

PROGRAM
WINTER PALACE
The Winter Palace is one of the most famous St. Petersburg palaces. Being the former official residence of the Russian monarchs, it played a big political, cultural and symbolic role in the Russian history. Our Hermitage museum tour covers the most beautiful receptions halls of this palace.
STATE ROOMS
The Winter Palace used to be the main royal residence. It was the heart of the court life of the whole Russian Empire. On our Hermitage tour you will walk through halls that were used for official receptions, meetings and balls.
SMALL HERMITAGE
The Small Hermitage is a part of The Hermitage Museum Complex. It is a historical building, that was constructed in the second half of the 18th century. This is where Catherine the Great kept some her private collection of artworks.
BIG (OLD) HERMITAGE
The Hermitage tour covers The Big, or Old, Hermitage as well. This block was constructed for growing art collecting and library of Catherine the Great's. An important part of this building is Raphael's Loggias - a copy of the loggias in Vatican made by the legendary Italian master.
NEW HERMITAGE
The New Hermitage was constructed in 1839-1852 under the order of the Russain tzar Nicholas I. It became the first building in Russia that was meant to be a public museum. Since then, thousands of visitors came to see the beautiful artworks and masterpieces by famous artists.
HERMITAGE MAIN COLLECTION
The State Hermitage is a truly multi-sided museum that presents the history of Russia, Russia’s greatest monarchs, like Elizabeth or Catherine the Great, and, of course, museum priceless art collections. Among the most famous names are Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Rubens, and others.
FRENCH IMPRESSIONIST AND POST-IMPRESSIONIST COLLECTION*
The Hermitage collection of The French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists is one of the biggest in the world. Please note, this collection is exhibited in The General Staff Building, which is not a part of our regular tour. Please, let us know if you would like to visit The General Staff Building as well, as will will add it to the tour for you. Additional charge will apply.

USEFUL ADVICE

Don’t forget to take your camera and some spending money. Please note, bottles are not allowed in the museum halls, they have to be left in a cloakroom/lockers. Same for backpacks. A little travel bag can work well for carrying your valuables on your Hermitage tour. No flash for photography inside. During the summer season it can be hot inside, make sure you are dressed properly.
